Five sober things to do in Ibiza

on

Ibiza is a beautiful island, but it’s fair to say that it’s associated more with its nightlife, its living to excess and its partying than anything else. Which can be off putting for people who are living a sober existence.

That’s actually more of us than ever before, whether it be through choice, a trait epitomised by Gen Z, or through having previously abused the likes of drugs and alcohol and seeking help in an addiction treatment centre to get their life back on track. So seeking out holidays that can cater for such sobriety is a must.

Now, you wouldn’t really associate that with Ibiza. After all, we know the reputation of the likes of Pacha and Ocean Beach Club. They’re places that many look to drugs and booze to fuel their experience. However, there is far more to Ibiza than this and actually, you can really embrace the island by enjoying it sober.

So, if you are sober and you’re looking for a holiday, here are five things to do in Ibiza to encourage you not to write it off…

Explore the Dalt Vila: A Journey Through History

Firstly, Ibiza is full of history, particularly in and around the Old Town and the Dalt Vila is actually a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s one of four UNESCO sites on the island and is perhaps the island’s most iconic landmark. The ancient fortified area is perched at the very top of a hill and not only provides insight into the history of Ibiza, but also provides breathtaking views of the island and out to sea.

Taking a stroll through the cobbled streets of Dalt Vila is like stepping back in time, with tons of historic buildings now occupied by the likes of cafes, independent shops and trendy bars. Along your journey, you should check out the Archaelogical Museum and the Cathedral of Santa Maria, making for an intriguing day where you can learn an awful lot about Ibiza and a completely different side to the nightclubbing one we’re all aware of.

Sunset at Es Vedrà: Nature’s Spectacle

Sunsets in Ibiza are truly stunning, and far more beautiful than the inside of any nightclub. Es Vedra is a small, rocky island off the southwest coast and is often considered one of the most mystical spots in the Meditteranean. In fact, many believe it’s the tip of the lost city of Atlantis!

Watching the sunset from here is really a must. It’s just spectacular. You can see the sun casting a stunning glow over the sea before dipping below the horizon. If you’re looking for peace and tranquility on your trup, then you will undoubtedly find it here.

Yoga and Wellness Retreats: Reconnect with Yourself

Speaking of peace and tranquility, Ibiza is not short of places to relax and rejuvenate and has long been a hotspot for wellness. There are dozens of five star retreats that focus on yoga, meditation and holistic health, with something for everyone.

Many are found on secluded beaches or in tranquil forests and they are ideal for reconnecting to both yourself and nature, all without the need for alcohol. They provide the perfect environment to destress and focus on self-care, something many of us can forget to do on holiday, but is so vital for refreshment and rejuvenation.

Hiking in Ibiza’s Countryside: Discover Hidden Gems

For someone looking to connect with nature even further when seeking solace, enjoying the outdoor adventures Ibiza has to offer is always impressive. The island is home to a fantastic network of trails, in which hikers can hug the coast or head inland and enjoy the forests.

It’s a chance to find some real hidden gems, with many keen to hike to Sa Talaia, the highest point on the island. From the top, you’ll see some incredible views, providing a great spot for contemplation. Other good walks include the coastal walk from Cala d’Hort to Cala Llentrisca, which offers excellent views of Es Vedra.

Visit the Hippy Markets: A Taste of Bohemian Ibiza

Ibiza’s hippy markets are a throwback to the island’s bohemian past and are a great way to experience its laid-back, creative side. These markets are full of vibrant stalls selling handmade jewellery, clothes, art, and crafts, often accompanied by live music and street performances.

The Las Dalias Hippy Market, held in San Carlos, is one of the most famous. It’s a colourful and lively place where you can spend hours browsing, people-watching, and soaking up the atmosphere. Another popular market is the Punta Arabí Hippy Market in Es Canar, which is the largest on the island.

Visiting these markets offers a unique insight into Ibiza’s cultural heritage and is a great way to support local artisans while enjoying a sober, relaxed day out.
